Treatment of Scalp Diseases and Hair Loss – Trichology

In the Beauty Therapy and Surgery Clinic SUGIHARA, the dermatologist-trichologist Aušrinė Ramanauskaitė consult about scalp and hair diseases, hair loss and alopecia. The dermatologists-trichologists specialise in the sphere of skin diseases and hair loss.

How can we know when the problem is serious and when we still do not need to worry? Every case is individual. Here are several control questions for you:

  • Has your hair become dry, fragile, brittle and lost their gloss?
  • Have you been losing hair for a long time?
  • Does the skin of your scalp get oily in such a way that even if you wash it every day, you do not feel well?
  • Do you suffer from increasing dandruff and itching of the scalp?
  • Are you worried that after you wash your hair in a bath, you leave more and more fallen hair there?

If your answer was positive at least to one of these questions and dandruffs, head itching, hair loss or other problems related to your hair and scalp keep recurring and last for long periods, you need to contact specialists of this sphere –  dermatologists-trichologists.

A common mistake is to solve hair problems with cosmetics; men and women look for a “magical” shampoo which would stop their hair loss or would solve another scalp problem but they only delay the solution of some certain problem and even worsen the general situation. Having not identified correctly the real cause for their hair loss, women often are afraid to dye their hair and to wash it every day with shampoo. You should remember that hair follicles are located 3-4 mm under the skin and if the hair is long, hair follicles reach the subcutaneous tissue; therefore, hair is protected from effects of chemical substances used for dyeing or performing long-term styling of hair.

The true cause of hair loss may be identified by performing trichogram or additional blood tests.

Consultation of a dermatologist-trichologist

In the Beauty Therapy and Surgery Clinic SUGIHARA, during a consultation of a dermatologist-trichologist, test of hair bulbs (trichogram) may be performed or hair stems may be tested in a laboratory.

Before performing trichogram, it is important not to wash your head for 3-5 days. Results of the trichogram are received after about a week. Depending on the results and the problem, the doctor-dermatologist prescribes a treatment method and how often the treatments should be performed.

The digital test of hair bulbs “Trichoscan” is a complex computer trichoscopy of the scalp and hair condition. Thanks to this test it is possible to examine the scalp and hair having zoomed them 1000 times; therefore, the whole condition of the hair can be seen, i.e. locations of mechanical and chemical damages, the condition of a bulb, defects of the structure, cracks and fractures of a hair stem,  hair cracking, etc. During the test, the number of hair and its density is calculated; the hair growth phases are identified. This is an effective medical examination of scalp and hair as well as diagnostics. The examination is painless; it does not require for advance preparation, it is very precise and fast. During the examination, it is not necessary to root out hair; they are only shortened in a small area which is hard to notice. The results of tests are archived; therefore, there is a possibility to follow and assess the effectiveness of the treatment.

If the problem is more serious, the modern test of the quantity of hair, its density and bulbs may be applied and during it the hairy part of the head is scanned and later analysed with special computer programmes.

It is also possible to prescribe additional blood and general body condition tests

With regard to the test results, the treatment method is prescribed. Sometimes it is enough simply to balance the diet or to use vitamins, sometimes it is necessary to use medicaments or to use mesotherapy treatments – microinjections in problematic areas.

Mesotherapy treatments are effective in treating hair loss caused by various reasons:

  • reactionary, that which began after the child birth, unbalanced diets or surgery, etc.
  • androgenetic, caused by hormones (it can be for both men and women);
  • focal hair loss (when the area of alopecia does not exceed 40% of the hairy part of the head).

The amino acids, vitamins and microelements contained in the medicaments strengthen hair roots and improve skin microcirculation; therefore, the hair growth phase gets longer and hair loss slows down
